Quality Measurement Tools

QUALITY MEASUREMENT TOOLS for early learning and child care environments are delivered in a weekend format by ECCENB facilitators, and include comprehensive training on the:

  • Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale-Revised (ECERS-R)
  • Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale-Revised (ITERS-R)
  • Caregiver Interaction Scale (CIS)

Stay tuned for future professional learning opportunities on the:
  • Measuring Quality Inclusion bySpecialink
  • Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale (FCCERS-R)

  • The Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale Revised (ECERS-R) and the Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale-Revised (ITERS-R), developed by Harms, Cryer, and Clifford, are quality measurement tools which can be used to assess the level of global quality in early learning and child care environments. The ECERS-R is used as a quality measurement tool in 3-5 year old programs, and the ITERS-R is used in programs for children younger than 3 years of age. The ECERS-R and the ITERS-R serve as a foundation in the development of inspiring environments for preschool age children and infants/toddlers, and support the New Brunswick curricula.

These tools are also supplemented with the Caregiver Interaction Scale (CIS Scale), by Jeffrey Arnett. This tool measures the quality of staff "tone" within centres with respect to harshness, detachment, and sensitivity.

Registrants must be available to attend all components to be awarded a Certificate of Participation. Priority will be given to those educators and directors who register to attend the entire weekend.
